Hogwarts I love it and want more

Hey Dear Readers,

I thought I posted earlier in 2023 but nope. So my bad.

Hogwarts Legacy has been out for a little over a week and it is amazing. Yes there are bugs, no it is not perfect but this wild leap away from anything having to do with the boy who lived and allowing us to create our own witch or wizard is amazing and a long time coming.

The battle system is fun and fluid. I truly feel as if I am in a duel with a dark wizard as spells fly. When you fight the animal enemies, mainly spiders it is still fun but not the same.

The field guide we get is a great way to chronicle our progress in the game and easy to use. However it is not perfect. Such as upon completing a challenge we have to go in and collect the reward. If the game can tell us we completed something it can also give us the reward at the same time.

Though I love the game for me when it comes to the story there are to many unknowns about the character we make that I still have questions on and I feel the developers missed an opportunity in fleshing out our story and background more.

Example. We are a 5th year student coming to Hogwarts. Where has our character been the 4 years prior that they have not attended Hogwarts.

When it comes to our background, who are we? Are we pureblood, half blood, do we have muggle parents. These are all things I want to know or feel should have been involved in the process of making the character.

All of that being said this game for so many Potter fans is a dream come true and my hope is that they continue to run with this moving forward.

Mental Health is part of our health Gaming and our community can help

Hey Dear Readers,

I know i take breaks from the blog and for that i am sorry. One thing you all don’t know is i have Generalized Anxiety Disorder and with medicine and therapy and gaming it all helps keep me center.

However i feel like another major factor is my gaming group. They are friends across time zones but they are ones who along with my family i always update on my medical saga.

I know people say that watching our favorite shows is a side of accepting and coping with trauma and though i can say there is some truth to it but, for me another way i deal is by playing my games.

Be it ESO, FALLOUT 76, or something else you fall into that world you make that character and you start your path. Yes you can do it alone but being with friends is part of what makes gaming such a wonderful hobby.

G.A.D makes me worry and regardless of the situation my mind when it was really bad would always jump to the worst possible situation even if logically i know it wasn’t possible or likely to happen. Phone calls, emails, personal calls it was at its worst crippling with me having to screen calls just to call them back so i could mental prepare myself to be on a call and talk to myself logically off the ledge of crazy not likely to happen situations.

Gaming settles my mind down and allows me to hone in and focus without the distraction of needing to answer the phone, emails popping up or needing to handle a fire or curveball from work. I know when i press a button something will happen be it intetacting with an item or jumping or using a spell / weapon etc. Gaming holds few surprises.

Maybe this is nearly 7am rambling but maybe this is something someone needs to read. I hope you all know regardless of your mental health or health in general its a process and a journey that never ends. That is okay though. Talk to your doctors, therapist, change meds or dosage to see if something else works is all okay to do.

My Time in Elden Ring

Hey Dear Reader and Friends,

Let me start by saying I am NOT a souls player. I tried darksouls 3 and my god, it was a bloodbath. I am not afraid of a good fight but this was something totally different and your dear Otome was not a fan. Now to bring us to Elden Ring. Came in on the 25th the day it launched and wow I actually got it. Now I am by no means the best and youtube is a welcome friend along with my other gaming pals but Elden Ring at least almost 2 weeks in to me has a really nice mix and balance of challenge and reward. Is it perfect, no, but what game is. The multiplayer in my opinion needs a rework but that may be on me. The idea of summoning your friend only to lose them again at the end of a dungeon or to restrict the amount of flasks you can bring with you I get it ups the challenge. However, maybe it ups it to much?

What do you all think of the game.

Tried to start a game group in my condo building… It failed.

Hey Dear Readers!

I know it’s been a minute but I have a good reason, I had tried to start a board game and card game group in my building. Though I seemed to cause the ladies in my building enough to talk about no one seemed interested and or Covid caused them to get cold feet.

So here I am with a small library of board and card games and few people to game with the exception of my dear friend R. She and I only are able to get together on Wednesday or Thursday schedule depending of course. Fear not though dear friends, I am still gonna keep at it.

There is a local club that gets together on Tuesday but I’ve yet to make it there. Plus Covid keeps changing everything so I’ll see what happens with that. Presently R and I are having great time playing Unstable Unicorns the NSFW version, Also we only have one more box from our Mallory Rock story until we can wrap that case up and start the next one.

Who knew finding a Killer could be so fun!

Hello Dear Readers,

I have a confession. I LOVE who done it. I can curl up with a good Agatha Christie or any good mystery writer any day of the week. or even listen to them on audible. this is all leading up to have you all played any of the hunt a killer cases or their stand alone board games? I am presently half way through one with a dear friend and oh it is so good. We finished our third box about three weeks ago. We cannot wait for the next box!

To keep us busy while we wait for the next box my friend and I have been working on the Hunt a killer stand alone board games. So far we have done “Mystery at Magnolia Gardens”, “Death at a Dive Bar” and now we are going to in the next few nights work on “Body on the Boardwalk” I cannot wait. These have all been a blast to play.

The Amazing Open World of Red Dead Online.

So i am a bit behind on Rockstars game Red Dead Redemption 2 and its tie in game Red Dead Online. I will admit i have not given the main story much of a look due to i have been enjoying the online game far to much to switch over.

In Red Dead Online you make your Avatar that can be male or female. For me i actually made and rock a female character in this game. The male designs in this game i personally not a fan of and they just seem off. However whatever you rock however you rock it welcome to 1899!

An 1899 where you can basically do what you want while you get revenge on those who wronged you. No spoilers for the story of course but WOW. So good.

One thing that does annoy me is that in order to unlock the jobs of trader or, collector etc. You need to use gold aka premium currency. You can buy the premium currency or earn it in game which if you max out how much you can make shouldn’t take you terribly long to do.

All and all my time in game continues to be a blast and enjoying my time alone and with friends. When we are not trying to lasso ourselves up we primarly are working on the bounty hunter role. We’ll eventually do the other roles well but we also just enjoy the day over all running around doing this or that.

This is a game i know everyone has played both in single player and also in online but it truly is a great fun game.

To Boldly Go into Star Trek Online

So its been a minute since i’ve updated you all and that is in large part due to being sucked into StarTrek Online.

This game is nothing new to many MMO players but wow has it held up well. I am as you all could guess playing on Xbox which is a few months behind but it is still a wonderful experiance with House United launched back in August.

Also for an older MMO they have a ton of different campaign paths which has not helped my mindless hours put into my many different characters.

What do you all think have you played STO? What faction is your favorite, what about ship what do you like to fly around in. I would love to more.

How do you handle Burn Out when gaming.

Hello Dear Readers,

Please tell me I am not the only gamer who deals with burnout. So how do you all deal with burn out when gaming? I am asking this because I sit here blogging to you all and am listening to youtube, I have games to play but the idea of playing a game right now just makes me feel so tired. I am mentally not remotely in the headspace to play anything. Nothing remotely sounds interesting to me. Here is the thing though.

That is okay. It is okay to take a step back and realize you don’t need to game 24/7 365. I am not going to say I didn’t game today. I 100% did game today. However I also have to listen to myself and know when I need a break. It is funny to me to sit here and say I need a break from gaming which is something that on a day to day so many use gaming to relax but it is true for me. Also if it is true for me it has to be true for someone else as well.

I know I am facing burnout when I am gaming and the game becomes to feel like a chore. Things that I use to love It is not bringing me joy. Also things like quests that use to make me feel complete now make me just go okay on to the next. and I stop enjoying the fact that I am making progress. When I am burnt out I just stop enjoying that feeling of accomplishment. As a gamer it is crazy to not find joy in the simple things. After all, how many games have reboots and or relaunches later on to great sales because we as gamers want to feel that nostalgia.

Let me put some numbers out there for you my dear readers and also to help myself break things down some more.

  1. Of my owned Xbox games I have 267…Wow.
  2. Of the actual games I have presently installed even with a 1tb external hard drive….51
  3. Of those that require an update because I don’t play them regularly….39

So in total I actually only play 12 games regularly enough to not need an update.

Here is the thing though I still get burnt out I still at times can’t be bothered and that is okay. I love just resting catching up on an Anime or just watching youtube to rest and recharge. Eventually that feeling of burnout will get less or at least for me that is true.

What do you all do for burn out. How do you combat it?

Stellaris and the Wonderful stories you can tell

Hey Wonderful Readers,

I know i am probably late to the party but can we all talk about how amazing Stellaris is. Regardless of if you play on PC or on console like myself. This is a true masterpiece of a strategy game.

I love this game. Lets start with how amazing it is that you can make your own empire from the ground up. Pic a profile and go from there. What do you want to be called, what will your people hold dear. Are you a military power or more of a peaceful nation. Do you have a Republic, Military Junta, Kingdom, Empire or something else entirely. You can do that and it is just the start.

Are you a hive mind, or a machine intellegence what is your reason for being. To bring the galaxy together or be a monster and tear it apart. The choice is yours and that is amazing.

All of this is not including the in game events that happen, the mid game events, and of course the end game crisis. Working with or against our galactic brothers and sisters in the senate.

No Stellaris run is ever going to be the same and it is truly a blast. Also getting your friends invovled is also a great thing and adds to the fun you can have because everyone is going to have their own ideas of what to do and how to do it. Most my my friends are all about war. I am more of the diplomatic way building friendships and defensive pacts. There is no one way to play your empire.

Have you all played Stellaris, what do you like or dislike or do you have another you all love?

What makes a RPG just that and not a Visual Novel

Hello Fellow Readers!

So I have been thinking about what makes a game a visual novel. I ask this because I have been thinking couldn’t any RPG be considered a visual novel? According to Wikipedia a visual novel is as follows, “A visual novel (Japanese: ビジュアルノベル, Hepburnbijuaru noberu), often abbreviated as VN, is an interactive fiction video game genre,[1][2] featuring text-based story with narrative style of literature and interactivity aided by static or sprite-based visuals, most often using anime-style art or occasionally live-action stills (and sometimes video footage).[3] As the name suggests, they resemble mixed-media novels.” I will post the wiki article here for you all to to review.

So all that being said I guess that would answer the question of why not all RPG’s can be seen as visual novels however that does not mean we can’t say other games and RPG’s are fun. Such as KOTOR, DRAGON AGE, others are amazing games in their own right. After all we can romance our friends in those games as well just like a good Otome game. If we took out the models and added the sprites any good RPG could be turned into a VN. How cool would that be?
