Mental Health is part of our health Gaming and our community can help

Hey Dear Readers,

I know i take breaks from the blog and for that i am sorry. One thing you all don’t know is i have Generalized Anxiety Disorder and with medicine and therapy and gaming it all helps keep me center.

However i feel like another major factor is my gaming group. They are friends across time zones but they are ones who along with my family i always update on my medical saga.

I know people say that watching our favorite shows is a side of accepting and coping with trauma and though i can say there is some truth to it but, for me another way i deal is by playing my games.

Be it ESO, FALLOUT 76, or something else you fall into that world you make that character and you start your path. Yes you can do it alone but being with friends is part of what makes gaming such a wonderful hobby.

G.A.D makes me worry and regardless of the situation my mind when it was really bad would always jump to the worst possible situation even if logically i know it wasn’t possible or likely to happen. Phone calls, emails, personal calls it was at its worst crippling with me having to screen calls just to call them back so i could mental prepare myself to be on a call and talk to myself logically off the ledge of crazy not likely to happen situations.

Gaming settles my mind down and allows me to hone in and focus without the distraction of needing to answer the phone, emails popping up or needing to handle a fire or curveball from work. I know when i press a button something will happen be it intetacting with an item or jumping or using a spell / weapon etc. Gaming holds few surprises.

Maybe this is nearly 7am rambling but maybe this is something someone needs to read. I hope you all know regardless of your mental health or health in general its a process and a journey that never ends. That is okay though. Talk to your doctors, therapist, change meds or dosage to see if something else works is all okay to do.

When the writing still falls short

Hello Friends and Readers,

I cannot sleep and i’ve been formating this post in my head for nearly a month now. So, i figured why not strike while the iron is hot and i cannot sleep.

I am STILL playing through ESO (Elder Scrolls Online) and i am loving it. I am if you cannot tell from my prior postings big on storh and boy does ESO deliver. That said though it falls short at times when, in my opinion matters. I’ll give some examples below but of course i’d love to hear your thoughts.

1. The race you choose should have more of an impact on how the world reacts to you. They do this somewhat but not nearly as much as they should.

As an Argonian if you are in the Ebon heart pact there is a side quest in Deshann where you are saving a local village of fellow Argonian the Elder recognized you as a fellow Saxhleel and you respond in kind saying you want to help.

Small things like this happen if you are in the correct alliance with one of the allied races. However if you are for example a Khajiit in the Ebon heart pact gets nothing dialog wise which is a let down from a story standpoint

2. Same can be said for if you choose to become a werewolf or vampire. Yeah you have small dialog with Lyris and Count Ravenwatch if you are a Vampire but not much else. Furthermore if you are a vampire during the second half of the greymoor chapter. Your vampire companion doesn’t even acknowledge you as a vampire and you have to use pirtals to travel around. That was a missed opportunity if i ever knew one.

I respect that this is an MMO so it is unlikely that all boxes could be checked but this lack of forsight just seems lazy to me. I still love the game but it takes me out of my experiance of being my character and the story i am telling in my head.

What do you all think. Have you come across this in games you love?
